Problem WAS custom probiotics

Recommended Posts

I stopped custom probiotics and she's not so aggressive but sleep is not as good without it. She does well with Culturelle and she is taking one adult capsule. Should I up Culturelle more or should I add in a different gentle probiotic??? I think she needs more probiotics but not sure what to give. I think Culturelle is just one strain, right? D-lactate custom probiotic made her worse. Suggestions are welcome!!! Thanks!!!

We love HCL probiotics by Pharmax. A local pharm carries them but you may need to order. We use the powder. It tastes good and we hide other supps under it on a spoon but here's a link to the caps but will tell you what strains are in it etc. That is our mainstay along with Florastor. We also try and get in fermented foods where possible.

my ds also had a serious problem with d-lactate -- not aggressive but very spacey and unfocused. we had previously used HCL by pharmax and went back to that with better results.

We've swithced to one with Saccharomycese Boulardii (irs a yeast) in it,after reading about how well that particular strain guards against C-Diff (which I fear because of all the antibiotics). ITs called Primal Defence Ultra and is a broad spectrum high does adult probiotic. It takes a little while to get used to - I take one once and a while and I get a bit of stomach/gas pain, but DS is used to it. That particular brand may be too much for your child to start with, but may want to look for the Sacc. Boulardii - more into on that here:

He used to take only yum yum dophilous by Jarrow Formulas. Its a chewable tablet that tastes like candy. He loved those - sometimes still give him those. What I liked about those was I could give him antibiotic with breakfast, and he would eat the tabs at snack time in his lunch box. Here is a place that sells them on line. I bought mine from Whole Foods.

I am learning a lot about c diff because I was recently diagnosed with it but never had all the typical symptoms of c diff. My symptoms were more like irritable bowel. Anyway, florestor is great for c diff, but culturelle is also great as well. I have been using both just as extra precaution against it. Depending on which doctor you talk to some will say culturelle others will say florestor. At the moment I am doing both. After I start feeling better I may alternate one day florestor and the next culturelle.

Glad to hear you figured it out! That's huge. Some kids are just sensitive to some things. My son can't take fish oil because it causes him to chew on his clothes.

I would try to up the Culturelle if she's tolerating it, because one capsule of that contains fewer organisms than the Custom Probiotics.
