Looking for a psychiatrist in the DC area

Recommended Posts

Does anyone here have a psychiatrist in the DC area that they can recommend specifically for treating/helping a PANDAS child? While DS's psychiatrist is open to the idea of PANDAS, our impression is that he doesn't put much thought into getting to know DS or thinking through his medication recommendations. We feel like we're re-familiarizing DS with him each time we see him, and he is really not knowledgeable about PANDAS. Thanks.

Dr. Susan Perlmutter was on Swedo's original team at NIH regarding PANDAS if I've kept my facts straight. She IS very familiar with PANDAS. I do not know if she is accepting new patients - wasn't the last time I knew but that has been a while ago. Her office was in Reston, VA.

--We saw Dr P. for a few months, a few years ago.

She would not try changing abx when we asked about azithro., only Amoxicillan/Pencillan at the time.

She was not supportive of IVIG nor pex. for Ps.

I don't know if she is still in touch with the Pandas/PANS NIH work--

You may want to ask if she is in contact with the NIH team, it has been many years since she was there.

We ended up changing and saw a CBT specialist for support with the symptoms of Ps.

DeterminedMom, pm me if you want the names of CBT specialist in McLean, VA, and the behavioral support group that helped us--DCMom also has someone she liked in DC.

Keith Saylor is a CBS specialist, but I don't think he is a psychiatrist - probably PHD in psychology. So not sure if he would meet your needs. He is in Herndon. You can probably find an old video clip of him on the web if you search. He was on one of the first episodes of Hoarders.
