Dd has strep now!

Ds had positive strep last wed. Went back this wed and rapid is negative and have received a call about the culture so am assuming its negative. They usually only call when positive. What I'm seeing with him is facial tics. Lots more then usual. He seems more excited and basically is acting a little different. So dd walks in my room this morning saying her throat hurts and she feels hot. I literally wanted to pull the covers over my head and just not get up!!! I was like &@"?&@great here we go again. So her rapid is positive. She was sniffling and throat clearing all day other then that very mellow. Ds facial tics are still around. I wonder if he is now reacting to her or if his strep could still be there even with negative results. I swear if he gets it from her I will completely lose it!!!!!! I am counting down the days till school is done. This really sucks b/c he was doing so well. He heard me tell the doctor that I think he might still have strep and now that his sister has it I think he is freaked out.

Request his results for the culture from the pedi. Sometimes these things fall through the cracks and even if it is negative, you will have the peace of mind of knowing. He could be fighting off the infection, but his since his body (immune system) is busy fighting, his symptoms are more prevalent than when he is not fighting. Much like your mood is likely completely different when you are under tremendous stress than if you are calm.

I will call tommorow. I was going to ask when I was there with dd but of course my head is 100 miles away at times.

I always thought this has to be torrettes. I should of listened to those couple of moms who said pandas. But I was confused at the time and didn't understand all of this and was basically in shock. But crap ds is constantly ticcing. I truely believe and see that this is pandas!!! He has been doing well because he has not been sick as often. Dd spiked to 104 today. Ds is ticcing and over all behavior is some what different. Thank goodness he is not extreme like before but do see a change. Still wondering if he is reacting to dd or if I should try him on more antibotics. I have not been giving him his vitamins lately because want to test him for pyroluria. He actually questioned me today saying why am I not giving any vitamins to him. Usually he can care less. He seems to want to be by me. Not excessive but feel like he trying to tell me mom help me here b/c he knows I understand. What scares me that ds had leaky gut b/c of all his antibiotics in the past and allergies. Throwing him on more antibiotics freaks me out. Why can't this be easy!!! Pondering what to do!!

My ds reacts to being around strep, even though he tests neg on rapid (I think because he's on antibiotics). Sounds like your ds has pandas in which case he needs a longer dose of antibiotic, at least a month. I would consult one of the few pandas specialists in the country or get the list of local Drs in your area from one of the pandas websites and don't bother trying to convince local ped if they're not knowledgable.
