I notice that Dr Jackson sells a skin cream containing methyl/hydoxy B12 and P-5-P, which he claims is absorbed more fully through the skin than through the digestive system. We use sublingual methyl B12, but oral P-5-P and L-methylfolate. Has anyone addressed methylation problems using transdermal supplementation, and if so did you find it more effective?

Rowingmom, just curious how you're giving these supps these days. We are getting on the MTHFR train (DS9 has single mutation C677) and I am in the process of choosing products. Unfortunately, our doc isn't too much help with specifics :(

Our LLMD has had DD10 on 1000mcg MethylB12 sublingual along with 1 EssentialPro liposomal glutathione capsule 2x daily, 1000mcg ProThera L-MethylFolate 1x daily and 30mg Klaire Labs P-5-P (B6) 1x daily since she began treatment in June 2011. She was on this for a month or so, along with a couple of transfer factors before Abx treatment was started. I do remember noting an elevation in DD10's energy and mood at the time.

I was blindly following the LLMD's advice at the time and only tested DD10 for MTHFR deletions a couple of weeks ago (through LabCorp). I have added the B12, methylfolate and P-5-P to my own supplementation and found some improvement in cognitive ability and energy level.

are there tests and are they reliable for some of the supplements that are given to address methylation? I have to focus on what it mostly likely to work, and would prefer to test rather than just giving them a try. Since this is a balancing act, I'm assuming that they can be over or under on these and either way can cause problems in the chain.

Is B-12 test acutrate in kids? i know alot of the vitamins will fluctuate greatly from day to day, hour to hour. Trying to figure out what tests and supplements to speak with LLMD about on next visit.

Thanks!

Rowingmom, is LabCorp in the U.S. only? I want to do the MTHFR testing, but not sure if I can get it here and don't see the doc until September. I don't want to bother with the appointment if I can't get the tests here in Canada.

I didn't even try to have it done in Canada. Neither our family doctor or pediatrician believe that DD10 has lyme/bart and will help in no way with any further testing. Not even vit D. The LabCorp test was approx. $365. Maybe call LifeLabs. IDK if they may know.

There is a mthfr guru at mthfr.net -- he will help you order the DNA test for about $150.

I notice the "Dr. Jackson" whose photo appears on the website wearing a stethoscope is NOT a doctor of any sort. He is a physical therapist who recently graduated in 2009. THe ART he practices, Active Release Technique methodology which is a form of manuel physical therapy used primarily but not exclusively in sport medicine physical therapy. He is a physical therapist with a DPT. That means he has received a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. It is a degree the requires 3 years of post graduate work in a school of Physical Therapy. I believe that all physical therapy schools in the US now use the DPT model. It is quite a stretch for this therapist to continually refer to himself as Dr. Tim or Dr. Jackson. In fact I think it is misleading for any physical therapist to refer to themselves as "Dr". Physician's Assistants and Nurse Practitioners have much more medical training the DPTs. They can order diagnostic tests and Rxs for some drugs. DPTs cannot order tests or drugs. Tim Jackson says he trained under Kendall Stewart M.D. to learn about "methylation deficits". Dr. Stewart trademarked the "Sensory View" which are 7 various tests that he brought together under one program. He opened the first "NeuroSensory Centers of America" in Austin Tx. He then franchised the Name and other NeuroSensory Centers of America have opened in other cities including Charlotte NC. Dr. Stewart besides being a trained surgeon also claims to be a "Neuroimmune Specialist". I stand to be corrected but I believe this is not a trained certified specialty field like orthopedics or cardiology etc. I believe that as consumers we need to understand what kind of medical practices we are using. Going in eyes wide open as opposed to hoping this is the place.

Interesting- Neuroscience- coined from Dr. Michael Goldberg, author of

The Myth of Autism.

He trained Dr. Stewart, some sort of partnership.

I have the book and read it, and have been on forums of parents who have taken their spectrum children there for treatment- good and not so good reviews.

In very layman's terms, it is all about taking the pressure off the immune system

with prescription anti-vitals, anti-fungals, removing all grains, dairy from the diet, any tropical fruit (weird, right)

AND adding an SSRI to get better blood to part of the brain- frontal lobe.

He orders SPECT scans on the brain of every patient (also treats CFS) and after treatments to see differences-

He calls this NIDS- Neuro Immune Dysfunction Syndrome.

Does not involve any chelation, and perhaps an antibiotic for a few months is ASO titers are high.

There is nothing in the book about MTHFR.
