Bonnie Grimaldi's Supplements

Recommended Posts

Hi. My ds12 has very loud screaching high pitched tics. I just ordered Bonnie Grimaldi's TS-Plus Control yesterday in an effort to help him. I've been reading here for a while in an effort to get educated. It seems many of you feel her products DO work, and after much thought, my husband and I decided to give it a try. We do have his Neurologists approval as well. Please, if you have experience with THIS tic, I'd love to hear from you.

There are an awful lot of pills to take each day with Bonnie's product. I am a little concerned at that, but are willing to try. Please tell me what to expect. How much time before we will see results? Do you take this in addition to other medications, or this alone? How do you take them? With meals? Before Meals? After meals? At bedtime?

I look forward to hearing from you and any experiences with the TS-Plus Control.

Thanks, in advance.

Pam

Hi Pam and welcome :P

we have never used Bonnie's actual supplements so I cant answer any specific questions related to them, but other members here have used them and many have been very pleased. Hopefully some with firsthand knowledge will be along soon to give you answers to your questions

I based my son's successful treatment with supplements on the original info that Bonnie first posted long before she had begun to market her own BonTech range of supplements and so I know that the basic protoocol can work, as my son's tics went from very severe to very mild. We did add and subtract some based on my son's unique needs.

Do be aware that some people do experience and initial increase in tics when first starting bonnie's supps, which seems to then settle and the improvement starts.

Some people have reported that they did not show improvement and have then gone on to put together there own individual supps one by one until they have found what works best for them (we did this)

As with all treatment protocols, do give it at least a month to fully work, although most people usually know by the second week whether it is working for them!

all the best

Hi Pam,

I started on Bonnie's individual program, but gave her TS-Plus Control vitamins to make life a little easier. It made my tics worse because the plan wasn't right for me so I went back to individual supplements. They do help many so hopefully those people will be along soon.

Is your daughter on medications? If so which ones? I would check to make sure there aren't any interactions with the vitamins & meds if she's on some. You can ask Bonnie about interactions with certain meds and you can also check at this site: Papa Nature for interactions.

I took clonidine & risperdal while taking vitamins. Once I started allergy shots, I was able to slowly go off all medications. I personally split up Bonnie's vitamins throughout the day into three times a day. Breakfast, supper, & bedtime because it was too many pills to take at once for me. I feel its also better for the body if you spread the vitamins out throughout the day.

Yes, my son is on Clonidine and Risperdal as well. We tried hard not to medicate, but the vocal tics were so loud, so often and very high pitched that we felt we had to try meds. We do see some improvement, however slight. I feel desparate to try something in an effort to hopefully help lessen the tics.

Will Bonnie's supplements help? Well, I guess time will tell. I'd still love to hear from anyone who has experience with her supplements and vocal tics. I appreciate both of your replies as well.

Samsma,

I kind of replied to your post and the other person here, with questions about the Bontec vits, under neck snapping. Since I have 2 son's on the vitamins, if I can help with any other questions, just ask OK?

Hi Kim,

I was just interested in hearing from anyone who has used the TS-Plus Control and that has seen results. What results are seen? A large increase in the tic? My son's main tic is a loud screaching tic and is the most concerning because of its social aspects.

The maximum dosage is 19 pills/day, which is an awful lot, isn't it? But, IF we see results, as I told my son today, it will be worth it. He has had this vocal tic for about 6-7 weeks now and we are all anxious to see it go away. My eyes have been opened to what so many people go through. This is all new to us in the past 4 months, and it is just heart breaking.

Anyway, any experiences would be great. Thanks!

Pam,

The highest amount that we ever reached with the vitamins was about 16 with my oldest son(if I remember right). At this dose he complained of feeling hyper. We reduced and kept going down as symptoms allowed.

He also had a run in with the tic that you're describing, but it was prior to starting vitamins. He only did it at home, always seemed to be right before bed, and it lasted a few weeks, went away and never came back. I know how upsetting that tic is, and hope it passes soon for your son too.

The most immediate effect of the vitamins that I saw with my older son was that he stopped aching all over quickly after starting them. He ALWAYS complained of this upon waking. He used to be late or miss school frequently because of this. His tic flairs were much milder and further btwn. The other thing that I think was really important for him was allergy control for tic reduction. Diet changes too. I don't remember any tic increase with either of the boys in relationship to starting the vitamins.

I'm wondering if your son had any kind of a virus or infection prior to the appearance of this tic?

I have come to look at everything else going on with them, if we see a tic starting, like

Allergies/mold exposure, dustmites, seasonal allergies, dark circles under eyes

Too much of an offending food? We did have a 20 food IGg panel done which showed sensitivities for both boys.

Metals...dental work, shrimp (high copper) algecide in hot tubs or pools (high copper/lower zinc) canned foods etc.

Processed foods containing MSG, too many artificial colors?

Too much sugar?

Chemical exposure for youngest son. He just informed me at the hospital, visiting my father in law, that the smell of the hospital was causing the subtle head/neck movements. He also has said the smell in the Mall, brings on ticcy feelings for him. This son seems to react to colors in diet and screen flicker more than oldest son, and has a limited diet. For two boys, that both have a tic syndrome, they have TOTALLY different presentations of problems.I suspect the reason for this, but I harp on that subject enough! vaccines

So, I guess as you get further into this, you will probably start to notice these patterns as most/many of us here have. There are sooo many different triggers for different people, it seems.

You got a Neurologists blessing to try supplements????? Hooray! Personally, I would give the vitamins AWAY from any medications even if Neurologist doesn't think it's important, unless he/she is a rare exception and actually has an education in med/supplement interactions. My boys are not taking any medications. We do try to split them up at least twice a day. I would also recommend working up slowly. If medications are involved, personally, I would treat an increase in tics as something to be be very cautious about. I have no medical knowledge to base this on, but I do read quite a bit! :P

Kim,

We are seeing a specialist in Movement Disorders in August at Rush Hospital in Chicago. One of the things on my list of questions is the relation to allergies. As far as we know, DS does not have any.

We talked to our Neuro at our last visit about supplements. He was receptive. He said many times the patient "just thinks" they are working. I know doctors believe in medicines, so we expected that answer. However, he said it was fine to try them along with the medicine our son is on.

Yesterday my son told my husband he thinks the supplements are working. He said he felt less urges to "tic." Maybe that goes along with what the Neuro said, because yesterday was only the 2nd day on Bonnie's TS-Plus Control. Today we are increasing from 5 yesterday to 6. I am going to then stay at 6 and increase as we see fit, upto 19 if needed. I splijt them up between all meals and snacks.

Nice to see some improvement after taking Bonnie's supplement .

I'm taking 20 caps per day , and it's working all rite . but still have tic .

I was wondering if the more we take , the better the effect is , as long as it won't exceed maximum dose .

Or is it possible that I decrease the dose and the effect could be better .

Honestly , I couldn't find the best dose for me .

Any idea ?

I am sure someone with more experience can better answer your question. In our case, we have decided to increase very slowly even though it suggests to increase to the maximum over a 7-10 day period.

Why take the max if it's not necessary, is how we feel. Maybe email Bontech and ask what Bonnie suggests you do. They seem to be receptive to questions.

Good luck

simonzl,

What I have found with my youngest son is that he doesn't appear to need as much of everything that you would be getting in 20 vits, but he does need the Mag taurate and calcium. His tics seem to be very much related to what he eats (or doesn't eat, would be more like it). If he gets ticcy during the day, I give him a Mag taurate or 2, and a calcium supplement, making sure he gets at least equal parts, or higher on the calcium. He's taking about 4 of the TS Plus in the morning, and 4 in the evening. I'm careful not to exceed 500 mgs of mag taurate, in fact even if he takes 2, he's only getting about 340 mgs per day btwn 8 vits and 2 mag taurate. Some days we only need 1 extra, some, not at all.

This is a 9 yr. old child, that weighs about 92 lbs.

If you try reducing the amount of TS plus, and upping the mag and cal. please let us know how it goes.

Finding the calcium citrate was kind of hard. Most of them are combo's of things I didn't want, or a cheap form which is not absorable. The twin labs does have calcium citrate, but also contain magnesium oxide. Sometimes I give 1 mag taurate with 1 of the twin lab supps. This gives my son 125 mgs of mag. and 150 calcium. Then I have a bottle of Citracal Petites. This contains 200 IU Vit D (which is not found in Bonnies vits) and 200 mgs calcium citrate per tablet. This one can be used, to get a full 2 to 1 ratio on the calcium to magnesium, but I have to cut the tablet in 1/2 if I'm only using 1 mag taurate, as they are 50 mgs. per single capsule.
