PANDAS Doctor/Paediatrican

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone I am new to this forum and am hoping someone can help me. My son (6) has Pandas, I'm still learning about this and am always researching, I am at a loss as to how to help reduce his facial tics. He always seems rundown and tired and his behaviour is all over the place. We have only ever been given antibiotics by the doctors. Does anyone know of a Doctor/specialist in Pandas that I could talk to in Brisbane/North Brisbane. Any tips would also be appreciated I am at the point of crying. Thank you

PS. Would it be fair to say that heat brings on facial tics?

Miss Anna----I would have a few questions:

1) How do you know he has Pandas????

2) Do you know the infection and the abx prescribed by ped????? Strep, ear infection ect.......How many days on what abx???

The reason I ask is that you must target the exact infection or co infections with the correct abx. I can say after strep, 10 days amox did nothing for tic reduction. Penicillin did however take it away completely----until next exacerbation/infection with strep. We now use azithromycin which will cover strep and mycoplasma.

I would get to a Pandas ped if you are not already seeing one.

Hello MissAnna, I am glad you found this forum, (though sorry you have had to!)

Brisbane, Australia, -- right? If so, try searching for Ozimum and sending her a pm, there is at least one other Aussie on the forum, but I cannot remember who--

Ozimum should be of help though--

All the best to you.

Unlike T.Mom, I thought Brisbane, California...

If you are in Qld, Australia, send me a PM (Top right hand corner of screen) and I'll send contact details for a couple of good DAN drs in Brisbane, Qld who treat PANDAS.

Hang in there! People in this Forum will help if they can.

I just wanted to add that heat definitely made any and all dd's symptoms increase. She had a facial tic of scrinching up her face every few minutes - randomly while on holidays she made her way into a very low heat sauna room for 45 seconds. When she came out, the tic was nonstop and her behavior went through the roof. She will often scream in her rages that her "brain is hot" - after seeing what the heat does to her, I believe it... Heat seems to make the swelling more pronounced in her brain for sure.

Hi Mummadee,

So sorry you have had to find yourself here but glad you found us. There is hope!

I will send you a private message with some recommendations - I am protective of our doctors because they stick their necks out to help our kids and I don't like to use their names on-line. However, I suggest you have a look at the following Australian websites, which have practitioner lists by state. These are two not-for-profit organisations established by Australian mums who bring experts in from overseas (mostly the USA) to train our medical practitioners in Biomedical protocols, which have developed out of the Defeat Autism Now! (DAN!) movement in the USA. But Autism is not the only condition they treat. We saw a Biomed dr and it was the best thing we did! DS is doing great! Don't be discouraged that neither website mentions PANDAS/PANS by name, recently trained Biomed drs will be well aware of PANDAS/PANS.

Hi guys - I’m in North Brisbane (Australia) & notice that there was some mention from Ozimum about Doctors in Brisbane that understand, accept & treat PANDAS on here a while ago?

Can you or someone pls send me the names & contact details for specialists & doctors in North Brisbane? We can’t even find an immunologist that treats PANDAS here (unbelievable hey!) let alone a Paediatric immunologist or other. For those of you overseas, Brisbane is the capital city in our country’s 2nd biggest state! Can’t believe we are so behind & there is so much medical ignorance.

I would be so grateful for your responses.

Thanks

Cath
