Nameda & Geodon (sp?)

Recommended Posts

Dans been taking 2.5mg nameda for about 6 months. I think it does help a little with his OCD. He did take nac for a while before that. He is so posed to take 5mg but I always give less than the scripts say. I didn't see any side effects at all I would try it if your dr says to. You can always change your mind if you see nothing. Did you try nac?

no. the psych. wants to try ability because she gets stuck on one thought all the time and you can't budge her to eat or do ANYTHING. He said the ability helps them to switch from one thought to another. I just keep hearing folks talk about nameda. figured i would mention it to him. the lyme specialist took her off the bactrim and boy, she is much better. i don't believe it was herxing. Mothers instinct. I think she was overdosing.

I wasn't a fan of ability. All drs have such different ways of thinking. Dan spy recommended the other glutamate med. I can't think of the name. I couldn't get it approved so we got the named approved. ? Ask her to try it. Really no side effects.

Namenda is often rxed for autistic symptoms. The response to it is pretty darn good. It has a very low side effect profile. I can attest to that. It helps with cognitive function, focus, aggression, irritablity, OCD traits, eye contact, etc. Google WOI-TV5 and search for Namenda. A station here in Iowa did a lead story & then a follow-up story on it back in Feb or so. The doc in the second story is the one we see. Evan is on a much higher dose than Melanie's boy. I believe it has taken the edge off his problematic sxs while we try to get him well. It is a glutamate antagonist.

Geodon is an atypical antipsychotic. It's main purpose for him is to address aggression/irritability. It is the one drug that has helped with his sleep. It helps the REM sleep. Risperdal made his sleep worse b/c it jerks around with the REM sleep. The only drawback is that it HAS to be taken with food/meal or the absorption is about 50%.

Namenda could be a very good place to start for your girl. PM me if you need more details. dawn
