beeskneesmommy Posted October 24, 2011 Report Posted October 24, 2011 Those of you that have recently read my posts know that my DS5 has been recovering well on a big gun cocktail of daily abx. Recently, over the past 3-4 weeks, he has been sweating profusely at night. I just moved him to my bed because I checked on him and his pajamas and sheets were soaked. This usually does not repeat again during the night but it is concerning as it is not hot here an he sleeps in minimal cotton pajamas. He just had a chem screen and liver and everything else is doing fine. Could this be toxins exiting, like a kind of herxing? Could this just be typical 5 year old boy stuff? He is my only one - I have no point of reference. I am kind of worried bacsues it is some serious sweat! Any ideas?
peglem Posted October 24, 2011 Report Posted October 24, 2011 Not normal, in my opinion. Have you checked thyroid? Some medications can affect thyroid function-usually resolves when med is discontinued.
Iowadawn Posted October 24, 2011 Report Posted October 24, 2011 Can be a bunch of stuff, but not normal I would say. Can be a babesia sx. Dawn
beeskneesmommy Posted October 24, 2011 Author Report Posted October 24, 2011 He had a full chem panel a couple of weeks ago - everything normal. Otherwise a very healthy boy except for a constant congestion which everyone calls allergies (has been going on for years, waxing and waning). He is not + for Babesia but + for Myco (igg) and on a lower level for Bart and Lyme (both igg)...
NYCMom Posted October 24, 2011 Report Posted October 24, 2011 We experienced this early on, shortly after diagnosis and starting abx. It was temporary btw.
rowingmom Posted October 24, 2011 Report Posted October 24, 2011 We saw this in DD10 for 1 year before DX with lyme/bart. There was exacerbation for several days after starting penicillin for strep and then again with biaxin/bactrim for lyme. I also noticed a sour smell (but not sweat) to her bedclothes and PJ for two years before DX. This has resolved.
Mom_me Posted October 24, 2011 Report Posted October 24, 2011 Maybe laundry soap related. Try using free clear. Big lots sells an off brand for only $6.00, compared to $14.00 for other brands, and it works great! Scented laundry soap can cause coughing as well, not sure if you've had any problems with coughing yet but just so you know....
NancyD Posted October 24, 2011 Report Posted October 24, 2011 Both my daughter and I had night sweats before Lyme/Bartonella treatment.
BoyIowa Posted October 24, 2011 Report Posted October 24, 2011 We are in the beginning stages of treatment with abx and looking for other options/ideas for my son's Lyme and PANDAS. I saw the comment on here about night sweats - my son sweats profusely every night. He sleeps in boxers and is usually uncovered and still sweats. I thought that it was just him. My husband sometimes sweats during sleep, but he has some other health issues of his own. Could this be somehow related or a piece of his symptom package? The only test that we have had run was western blot for Lyme and Strep titers. What full chem panel should I suggest to our ped to see if we have found the total problem that we are trying to treat him for?
norcalmom Posted October 24, 2011 Report Posted October 24, 2011 I dont' know why this is common with pandas kids - but I've seen it on the board before, and my DS had it as well. He had it before and during antibiotics. And not just at night - he was very sweaty during the "beginning" (more accute) phase. He's not now, but I'd say it was several months.
beeskneesmommy Posted October 24, 2011 Author Report Posted October 24, 2011 Thank you for your responses! It seems like it may have something to do with either the abx treatment of, or the Bart, or both. I really appreciate all of your feedback! Well wishes toward recovery to all.

I cannot really answer you for your situation, but I can tell you what we have done. When I say "chem panel", I am referring specifically to the check on organs that may be affected by long term abx use (liver enzymes, etc.). A precaution and they were all negative. In terms of co-infections, sounds like you have already found Lyme and I do not know if further investigation is necessary, especially if you are seeing positive results from the abx treaments. I can tell you that our specialist ran labs for Babesia, Bartonella, Lyme, Mycoplasma and, of course, Strep titers. Warm wishes toward the recovery of your son! -Kath
hugs2day Posted October 25, 2011 Report Posted October 25, 2011 My kids went through this before abx, and the sweat had a scent to it that was sweet or yeasty. I always figured it was thier bodies sweating out the bad stuff because they would sleep good and look better next day. They also had urine that smelled like a chemical over a year later we describe it more like ammonia. It hasnt happened to either one of them since starting treatment for pandas.
