Rothman Center question

Recommended Posts

We have a date for our dd13 to go to Rothman Center in Florida. We are scheduled for Nov. 28. Difficult time of year to go but don't want to wait until January. Dr. S. just emailed me the name of my dd's therapist and schedule times. If anyone has been recently and would please pm me about their experience. We are really hopeful that our daughter will be helped by this therapy. She will not cooperate with once a week therapy here locally. Dr. T has her on abx and she is taking Bontech supplements but she is considered severely OCD and we are needing a breakthrough. If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it. Thanks, Ellen

Hello -

We were at USF recently and the program and staff were excellent! We had a great therapist to work with however our DS15 was just too sick and at this particular time and it was too challenging for him to take full advantage of the intensive OCD program. We made it though 3 weeks but it was very slow going. He did however make progress which is good and he really liked the therapist. We are going to have to try other medical intervetions so that we can get him healthy enough to be able to handle more fully the challenges that come with this type of program. We would definately go back as I really feel the CBT/ERP is an important piece of treatment. We were also able to consult with Dr. M while we were there who made some recommendations for us - supplements, meds, ivig etc. Even though DS didn't make as much progress as we had hoped - the trip was worth it for us in giving us better direction and guidance on how to move forward. Wishing you the best and hoping your daughter does well with the program!

We haven't done the intensive program there, since our son is still to young to benefit from it. But we've done ERP/CPT there weekly until a few months ago, and we are regular patients of Dr. Muprhy and her fellows. (We were just there yesterday!!)

Our son LOVED his therapist! (One of the reasons we stopped is because she's not there anymore, and she thought we had the techniques down well enough that unless new issues came up, until he was older (he'll be 4 next week) and HE was in control of the techniques vs. us controling them weekly wasn't necessary for us.) He ADORED "Miss Jesse", and we still use "Miss Jesses's Rules" to address a particularly stubborn OCD problem (like wanting his food in quantities of 3).

We've seen Dr. M and 3 of her fellows, we didn't really care for the first one we saw, but the other two are great, and our son absolutely LOVES them! The referrals they've given us to other specialists (immunology) were also great in that they were very well versed in Dr. M and her work so PANDAS wasn't "new" or "controversial" to them.
