peglem Posted September 3, 2011 Report Posted September 3, 2011 I think if you have epstein barr virus (mono) while on augmenten or amoxicillan it can cause a rash.

KaraM Posted September 4, 2011 Report Posted September 4, 2011 Have you tried giving benadryl. My understanding is that if it is the result of an allergy, then benadryl should help.

KaraM Posted September 5, 2011 Report Posted September 5, 2011 Yes, he's taken Benadryl and no change in the rash. Still there-- same, but not worsening, anyway. I figured the same, glad to hear your take-- allergy meds not helping it, probably not allergy. Now he's starting to rapidly backslide in the progress he'd made while on Clindamycin and the steroid taper (done now) and his PANDAS/OCD symptoms are flaring back up now-- and my dd is starting to get a mild reaction to whatever he has going on like she got last time when he had the strep. In fact, she asked me today if his strep was back b/c of how she felt. But, so far his perianal strep rash is not returning and throat has been okay. I'll bring him in to see our regular ped on Tuesday and fortunately we already have an appointment scheduled with our PANDAS doc this Thursday. Ugh! TH
LNN Posted September 5, 2011 Report Posted September 5, 2011 It may or may not help, but here's a look at a variety of rash presentations for tick-borne infections - obviously won't help you rule anything in or out but sometimes it helps if you recognize something similar...http://www.drjoneskids.org/ if this link doesn't bring you to the correct page, on the left you can scroll down to the link that says "rash photos".
