Anyone try lithium as a mood stabalizer

We saw some improvements on it, but tried adding lithium when it seemed to be not doing the trick anymore.

In hindsight, I think problems may have been from PANDAS episodes while on it.

We only needed a week to see the lithium was making things drastically worse.

A problem with knowing what the lamictal is doing is that you have to titrate up so slowly- changes are gradual.

I would like to caution anyone who is not bipolar or specifically prescribed lithium to please not try it without first consulting your physician. As peglem posted, the effects can be very severe if your system does not require or tolerate lithium! and even the "homeopathic" otc versions can be problematic unless specifically recommended by your physician

No lithium (homeopathic or otherwise) here, but DS14 has been taking lamictal for almost 3 months now, and we've seen tremendously positive results with it.

It's actually on Bi-polar disorder but talks about how lithium stabalizes glutamate. http://bipolar.about.com/od/lithium/a/010312_lithium1.htm

Thanks for posting. I read the article and found the following warning interesting.

Drug Interactions

Medications that can interact badly with lithium include:

•ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin)

•naproxen (Aleve)

•diuretics

•SSRI antidepressants (Prozac, Luvox, etc.)
