KaraM
I just listened to my voicmail from last night with a humbled doctor on the line. I can't criticize him too much- he spent close to 2 hours with us on Wed. and did take me seriously about something being wrong with my son. But he didn't think it was strep or myco p based on the lab results. The + myco P came back - on a second screening. So he was not comfortable prescribing abx for him He did order more blood tests and did do a throat culture to appease me. Well, guess what. The culture started to grow strep! He is now going to prescribe abx for my son. Hopefully this will help stop my PANDAS daughter's decline. What a roller coaster ride.

adkmom
Good for you! Where would we all be without our mother's instinct! Hope things settle down for you. And thanks for the ped. recommendation in Plattsburgh. Dr. Beguin was sooo nice and agreed to order tests based on whatever specialists recommended! Whewww. We're off to see Dr. B. on Monday. adkmom
Kara, How did you know your son might have strep, what made it borderline? And why did Dr. B keep testing your son if he doesn't have pandas? Sorry, trying to learn from your experience because I have a non-pandas twin and can't tell how he's impacting his brother. KaraM
After our first appointment for my PANDAS daughter, Dr. B said we should all be tested for strep. My son's came back slightly elevated, so he wanted a second round done to see the direction. His ASO went up (but was still normal). His Anti DNase went down, but was still a little high. So he said do it a third time. His ASO and Anti DNase both went down and were normal. So they've been up and down. When we called last week to tell him about our daughter's recent decline and my son's sore throat symptoms, he thought my son might be carrying strep or myco plasma - and that my daughter was reacting to him. So we tested again. Both his ASO and Anti DNase increased again - still below the normal threshold, but getting close to going over...
