  1. And now you have me thinking...could her increased anxiety over the last few weeks be because of the thyroid medication and not herxing? Her T3 was low.

interesting...yes, our MD put my DD on thyroid medication a few weeks ago. Hopefully only briefly. From what I understand it's a bigger problem if T4 does not convert to T3.

So, my LLMD called a couple weeks ago to inform me that my childs reverse T3 were elevated and he ordered Selenium. I looked it up and did not really find muchh that popped out at me. But then today, I started researching all kinds of things ~ anything tht might possibly connect to my daughter.

Then I come upon this page and now I'm wondering if most all her symptoms are simply comming from this and if I should be looking for a thyroid doctor instead?!

    http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/reverse-t3/

this is the paragraph that stopped me in my tracks:

When biological stress is ongoing, your adrenals will eventually become fatigued, dropping from high cortisol to a mix of high and low, or all low, and those low levels put you into the problematic state of adrenal fatigue, which causes chronic anxiety poor coping skills, paranoia, easy nausea, sensitivity to light or sounds, psychological issues, etc. When you don’t make enough cortisol, thyroid hormones can pool high in your blood. So your body responds by converting the T4 to excess RT3.

Anyone elses kid dealing with this?

But If I was reading this right, if the RT3 is elevated that in itself could cause the high anxiety & other psychological problems. Would'nt meds change that? Or does your daughter have low RT3? Sorry, just confused at the moment...

  3. Don't laugh, (go ahead I did at first :) have you ever heard of a sniffing tic? I thought I noticed her sniffing me once last week, and right after I thought I saw her hiding the fact that she was sniffing my shoulder... Well tonight sitting there watching tv with her, I was positive that she was doing it again twice to me. Then she came in the kitchen laughing and I realized she was sniffing inbetween her laughs. Now I'm not sure if this is actually a tic or OCD. The only other tic I have ever seen her do was with the sudden onset she had a grimancing neck twisting but that went away after the first antibiotic we tried in November... Maybe this is a herx?

  4. We will be seeing Dr. J. next month. I have not let my children dd9 know that she has Bartonella and may have Lyme. She has OCD and one of her fears is being bitten by a tick (ironically enough). Anyway, I was wondering whether his office makes it clear/obvious that he is treating Lyme (for example, are there pamphlets and posters all over the place)?

If yes, I'm going to need to do some serious distraction or make some arrangement with the staff, or somehow prepare my dd.

    Thanks,

    Kara

he does have pictures of many of the kids that he has helped and lots of info out but it is all about him helping the kids and them saying thank you, from what I remember. I agree, I think you should talk to the girls at the office and explain your concerns.

  5. My daughter weighs much more but she does not swollow pills, and can really put up a fight about meds so I've been trying to make it as easy as possible. We try to do daily Epson salt baths, give her extra fiber gummys and I just started giving her a new product that I found. (don't know if it will help yet) but it is called Yummy Greens for kids and has Chlorella Algae in it. It is kind of like a chewable vitamin. She is also on Selenium and high doses of vitamin D because her levels were extreemly low.

I did buy the bentonite clay yesterday at the same time, but I'm pretty sure that is not going to go over well and may return it... (or maybe give it a try myself) Can someone tell me exactly what the charcoal is for? I've just been winging it and doing ok here so far, but incase things get bad again, I like to know other options.

I see Dr.J also, all he said was to make sure we do the probiotics and try to add more fiber.

  6. Here was thier response:

    HI Jodi,

Thanks for getting in touch. I am actually casting a show about people who want to get a Psychiatric Service Animal so I know a little but am definitely not an expert on the topic. I can direct you to a few sites that can probably answer your questions better.

If you are interested in participating in the show, please let me know. The series is for Animal Planet and we are still looking to cast some episodes later down the line.

    Thank you!

  8. No, only this email that was sent to the lady that is the head of my Pandas group. Which is Julie. I have no clue how an animal would help with contamination, but I am excited to learn more about it. I can't wait for the show to air. I'm tempted to email and ask how much a service animal would cost...

Email sent with specific questions about contamination. I will share when I get a response.

  9. Dear Julie,

I'm writing to you because I'm working on a new television series about psychiatric service animals. Service dogs are now being used as a successful strategy to help curb OCD behaviors. I wanted to reach out to you to see if anyone in your organization or support group might be interested in the project.

We are in the process of casting for people that either already have a service animal or are interested in getting one to help with a mental health issue. If anyone is interested in learning more, please have them contact me at jmolli@redmarblemedia.net or 646-536-2572.

    Thank you,

  11. Today her eyes looked better, but she was complaining her ear hurt so I took her to our family physician and he said no infection, but TMJ. She has been grinding her teeth I guess. But, tonight her eyes look bloodshot, but at least the red is not a rainbow shape over her eyes. That really freaked me out last night. The kid has not done anything today that would warrent bloodshot eyes, so I'm clueless..

  12. I think two weeks is just begining of the healing. We can't help but be impatient; our kids have been sick a long time and we want them to keep moving fast forward. But, we can't force the healing. I've been following your story here and on the Pandas board, and I think she has come along way from when you first started posting. Could it be that death and dying have been bothering her for some time and she is only now well enough to vocalize it? Is there anything you can do to distract her from focusing on it constantly? You said she seems so sick and pale after the steroid burst, maybe she is herxing. That would be a good thing but it may take a while to see the good things come from it. (((hugs))) I have no answers, just thoughts to ponder.

  13. I've been taking my girl swimming for a while now, and normally I would think this was from the chlorine. But the chlorine in this pool is not usually strong and her eyes were never red the other days. Normally we are there for 4 to 5 hours. Today we were only there for about 2 1/2hours. Anyway both eyes have a red streak that go from the corner (one end) and curve to the cornea. WEIRD.

She just finished this weeks Tindamx last night. Could this be a herx? Sometimes I just feel so incompetent with these illnesses..

Plz just disregard this post. It is probably nothing. I do not know how to delete posts. sorry.

  15. Decreased vitamin D levels are common in the population. They are even more common in Lyme patients. My daughter and I both test low. Being outside some will help as well.

Did you receive any more info. on the reverse T3? Are they running additional Thyroid tests? Also, I think low levels of Selenium can play a role, not sure though.

Enjoy your day at the pool! I'm so happy to hear you are seeing some improvements!!

edit- I forgot to mention that yes the weight gain could be from the elevated reverse T3. Hypothyroidism can cause weight gain, as well as elevated liver functions.

Thanks, we did not get to go today because we have storms but I get to take them both tomarro. Selenium is what they are ordering and they said they would retest when we seem them in August. That being said, they were contacting the Pandas doc so I may be having to get her other testing done. Just sitting here waiting by the phone for one of them to call me.

  16. ABx are not the only thing that causes a yeast infection. If something is wrong with your system and the balance is thrown off, you can get extra yeast. Add in the American ways of eating and ABX and you are more likely to get it. Also, if there is a problem with yeast, stopping ABX alone will not cure the yeast.

    Are you using the probiotics?

  17. LLMD called and she has low vit D and Elevated Reverse T3. Not sure what that means. But we have meds comming. Also, her liver functions are elevated so they are faxing them to the Pandas doc and they want him to fax any blood work that he has done. So, now I'm worred again... Could the T3 have anything to do with her weight gain?

But I do have some more good news tht I want to share :)For the first time in 9months my child had her best friend Gary come over today to visit! The first time she has talked to him since! And that sweet boy took off his shoes and socks and put on the flip flops she gave him! (ocd rules) LOL I am taking them both swimming tomarro and I am so excited. Did I post here about that she let me take her swimming to a public pool last Monday that she had deemed contaminated? I was so happy to report that to Dr.J :)

So I guess I'm both happy and terrified today

Can I have any thoughts on the bloodwork?

  18. Have you tried the meds that the Pandas doc gave for the lyme? My daughter is both Pandas & Lyme. I used what the Pandas doc gave until we got to the lyme doc. From here I am dealing strictly with the Lyme until it is gone. Once that is all under control, I will deal with the Pandas doc. But since you already have a lyme doc telling you to use the L, I would stick with that person until you got to Dr.J.

That being said, I do email my Pandas doc to keep him in the loop because I feel it is important for everyone to learn as much as they can about Lyme.
