  1. I'm not sure he will be willing to monitor his diet, but we can totally try. I know red things make his tics worse. I have also been told that he has short term/working memory deficits. Could that be from tourette's also? Or, do you think there might be an underlying condition that I don't know about yet? Thank you for all of your help. I really appreciate it! Joy
  2. Good Morning, I have a 12 year old boy that has been diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome. I want to try and find a good multivitamin, Omega 3, and probiotic for him, but I'm not sure which brands are best. I'm also a little bit confused on how much and what kind of B vitamins to give him. I have purchased the Natural Calm brand of magnesium. I would love any help y'all could give me! I'm just trying to do the best I can for him. Some days that doesn't feel like enough.
  3. My son has been taking Tenex for approximately 4.5 years. At the beginning it seemed to work well for him, but lately it hasn't been working the best and his tics are more pronounced.. He is 12 years old and hasn't had any side effects from there. He is currently taking only 2 mg at night.
  4. I apologize in advance if this topic has already been answered somewhere else. Have any of you tried to use essential oils to help with tics? If so, have they helped and what did you use? Thank you for all if your help!! Joy
  5. My 11 yr old son has Tourette's. I am trying to find cleaning/laundry products that have as few chemicals as possible. What brands of cleaning products do you all use? Have you noticed if it has made a difference in regards to frequency/severity of tics? Thank you for all if your help!! Joy
  6. I thought I had possibly noticed a small change, but maybe that's just wishful thinking. His tics are worse again today. So, now I'm going back through yesterday and trying to think about what he ate, where he was, etc.... We went to the asthma/allergist today and my son's asthma is getting much better! I was so happy with the results of his breathing test. yay! I asked the doctor about the possibility of testing for food sensitivities and he told me there wasn't really any good way to do this. So, until I find something else, I will continue working on looking for foods and other triggers.... Sheila, we could travel to Hurst. Thank you all for all of your help! Joy
  7. We just got back from a visit with our child neurologist. We had gone back for our 3 month check up and to tell her that my ds (10yoa) tics are much worse. She wanted to up his haldol, but we told her we really didn't want to go that route. I asked her about the possibility of food sensitivities and/or possibly seeing a chiropractor for help? She told me that neither would do any good. The basil ganglia isn't influenced by outside factors. It's the basal ganglia that is the problem. We then asked her about deep brain stimulation and she said there has been good effects from that, but she wasn't sure about the effectiveness numbers in children. She said she would refer us to the movement disorders clinic in Houston to see if that was something we might want to try. She also put him on clonidine. We'll see....I hate giving him all of this medicine, but I don't know what else to do. He is having so much pain from the tics that cause him to move his neck, that he can't sleep. He was crying last night and so upset. I really want to help him, but I am at a loss for what to do now. I would appreciate any and all help you could give me. Thank you....
  8. Sheila, Thank you for your quick reply. We live in Central Texas, north of Austin. Our neurologist is located in Austin. She is the one who is watching his meds, etc. I asked her what she thought about his constant upset stomach and she thought it was probably anxiety over being self conscious about his twitches, but urged us to get it checked out with his PCP. She also had us try the mag/omega 3 combination. Currently my son is on 10mg of zyrtec in addition to his other meds. He was also diagnosed with asthma in August of last year. I feel as though he is falling apart....and I am too. I looked at your reply to the other poster just a few minutes ago. I do have the book natural remedies for Tics and Tourette's. I have been trying to pay attention to what he is eating, but I haven't started eliminating any foods yet. I will cut out artificial flavors/colors, nitrates, and sugar. I appreciate any and all help as I feel like the doctors open to habit reversal therapy, but I don't seem to be able to make any forward progress. Joy
  9. Does anyone know of any providers doing this in Texas? My son was diagnosed with a chronic tic disorder at age 7. He is 10 now and his tics have become really bad. He is currently on tenex and haldol. We were going to try and wean him off of the haldol, but his tics are so severe right now, that we can't start that yet. He will be going into 5th grade this fall in a new school and I'm worried about how he will do. He also complains of his stomach being upset constantly. I don't know if it is anxiety or something else. He has been allergy tested and is allergic to grass mostly and the protein in shrimp. He did not test positive for any other foods. We have noticed that the red dye causes him to start ticcing. We have done the magnesium and omega 3 route, but we didn't really notice much difference. I don't know what else to do. I would appreciate any help you could give me. Thank you! Joy
