  1. I get it in amazon. But gnc has it. They sell it in these little packages like tic taca and my son always carries one "for emergencies". He feels very in control.
  2. No. I had finished the amixicillian and biaxin. When I tapered him off the tics came back even if the infection had cleared. I assumed that the problem was a lingering brain inflammation. Tried motrin and it worked very well so I started investigating stomach "safe" anti inflammatories and this one was a magic pill for my son. I would love to hear from other people that are using it. It is new and makes me nervous but it has been amazing for him. I cannot believe I am the only one. Please ask Dr T about it
  3. My son weighs 84 pounds so I gave him half of the adult recommended dose. 1 tab 3 times a day at the height of his tics. When the tics came down I lowered it to 2 then 1 and now he only takes them maybe once a week if he is having some tics. He has not taken any this week. I have posted about this before and I am very surprised that not more people know about it. Definitely ask your doctors. It is new and it is expwnsive but it works and is OTC.
  4. We have a family if ulcers in my family so I used motrin sparingly at the beginning. When he was in them the tics stopped so I felt I was on the right track. He has never displayed much of OCD except being very fussy about his drinking glasses because they could "be contaminated". Then I tried curcumim without much success. Then I discovered Anatabloc an that worked amazingly. I am not sure why more people in this board are not familiar with him. dr T knows about it and warned me about possible MAO properties and to avoid certain vegetables and cheeses but we have not had absolutely any problems.
  5. With my ds, I treated the inflammation (after treating him for strep and mycoplasma). It wasn't until the inflammation had been dealt with that everything went back to normal. Of course, the other shoe could drop any second but he has been now 3 months antibiotic free
  6. I thought it was the opposite that PANDAS was mainly a pediatric condition that's my times resolved at puberty. Dr T mentioned this to me
  7. Have you thought that the improvement with antibiotics could be due to their anti inflammatory properties? Why don't you play a bit with anti inflammatories instead?
  8. My son has pandas with tics but few other symptoms. My guess is that there is a wide spectrum of behavioral issues under this condition.
  9. Thanks Kimballot. I guess I will find out the next time he gets step. I do not have him on any antibiotics for now. I may be pushing it but I am trying to give the bacteria in his guy a break. He has been off them since Xmas. We'll see
  10. I started off with 3 a day. My son likes mint but I imagine that it does not matter if one chews it or swallows it. Now his tics are considerably better and he only takes a pill if he has an exam or a viola class or is in a situation where he is scared he might tic. If he has sugar (which I try to limit as much as I can) he tends to tic and and he will take a pill then. In those situations I do see a very quick result. Within 10 minutes it's much better. While I am not really sure I would try it for at least a month 3 pills a day. My ds is only 10 if he was a larger teenager I would up it to maybe 5 or 6. I hope this helps. I love this supplement.
  11. Dr T recommended against getting flu shot. I am not sure if dr t did the cam kinase. I assume that is a test?
  12. But wouldn't it be unusual if Strep and other infections did not trigger it and specific infections like Myco did? Is this unusual (as far as there is any rhyme or reason to this complicated condition)
  13. My ds 10, was diagnosed with PANDAS in the fall when he had a double infection of Mycoplasma and Strep. He was put on two antibiotics and is practically back to "normal". In the interim, his sisters have had strep and he has not worsened by being around them. Before his diagnosis, he also had strep but never but never displayed Pandas symptoms. My questions are could his trigger be Mycoplasma specific and not strep or is it more likely that he has fought off both infections and that his body is able to withstand being around others with strep? thoughts? Also, is Mycoplasma like Strep in that one can get it repeatedly? Thank you in advance
  14. No. He had never heard of it before. He asked me if my so. Had ano conditions or was in any medications and I told him that he needed to be on constant Antiinflammatories and that is when he told me he should not get braces then. He is an NYU teacher too. He had never heard of pandas but was very curious.
  15. When I told my son's orthodontist that my son had Pandas he recommended that he NOT get braces. Braces cause an inflammation to allow the teeth to correct in place. If you use motrin or any other Antiinflammatories you would be fighting against this needed inflammation and could end up with braces for years with no teeth correction.
  16. I have a silly question. Can a kid get mycoplasma more than once?
  17. I noticed that, when he went off antibiotics, whenever he tic-ed Motrin would work really well. Since I am scared of ulcers I started to look at OTC anti inflammatory alternatives and stumbled upon Anatabine. I asked Dr T and he suggested that as a MAO my son should stay off some foods like cheese or wine (not an issue yet!). Otherwise he said that Anatabine may be very interesting for Pandas. My son does amazing on it. He carries a little dispenser with him to school and if the tics bother him he takes one. He can take up to 3 a day (adults 6) but he usually just takes one. My husband is also taking it for an autoimmune condition (doctors don't really know what it is but it comes and goes) and now my dad is taking it for allergies and rosacea. If this ends up having some horrible side effect I will end up with no men in my family!! but so far everyone seems very happy. I could not find anything about side effects online but would love to hear from other people that are taking it. Again, for my son it produces immediate results and he also like to feel in control of his tics by carrying the pills around. THat in itself, I think, reduces his stress and makes him tic less. The pills are EXPENSIVE but would love to hear other people's experiences
  18. Hi everybody. I am happy to report that my ds 10 is doing great. I am watching him carefully and swabbing his throat every couple of weeks to be extra vigilant. He is off antibiotics and used Anatabloc whenever he gets tics. I had 2 questions. First, do any other Pandas kids here display tics but no OCD signs? At the height of his exacerbation my son had very bad motor and oral tics, distress and inattention but no traditional OCD symptoms. Is OCD something I can expect down the line? Also, I am curious is your kids do better in the summer when school is out. Finally, are there any PANDAS support groups in Manhattan? Thanks!
  19. Dr T was a lifesaver. Put us at ease quickly. At the time I was thinking tht maybe my son had all of a sudden developed TS triggered by middle school stress but he told me to give him a Motrin and saw how the tics disappeared in minutes. That was the first tangible proof that I was on the right diagnostic path.
  20. So interesting. Can we add allergies to the thread? Both panda son and mom suffer from seasonal allergies
  21. Mom 32, dad 36. Mom many strep episodes and low thyroid. Dad suspected autoimmune disease that comes and goes and we have no idea what it is.
  22. Hi Stillhopeful, my pediatrician's name is Dr. Silverblatt in Brooklyn Heights. While she "caught it", dr. T has been running with the treatment. But she has been very open minded about it. The improvement in tics was immediate after antibiotics. However, some still remain but i think it is getting better.
  23. Hi smartphones, My son had very loud and crazy tics. Jaw pulling, vocal clearing, eye rolling. Non stop. He could not focus at all in schoolwork and was an emotional mess but no OCD symptoms that i noticed. This came overnight and i got a diagnosis very quickly from his regular pediatrician who happens to have a daughter with Tourette's so she is well versed in Pandas. I thank my lucky stars for her. I got eeferrd to Dr T who tested him and he had not only strep but also Mycoplasma. He was put on two antibiotics. I tapered him off and the tics were much better but still going on. I took some advice from this site and added OLE, oregano oil with honey, magnesium/calcium and took sugar and gluten away with great success. Every now and then the tics flare up and I give him this anatabloc which i heard about when searching for natural Antiinflammatories online as I don't want to give him motrin because there is a history of ulcers in our family. He tells me that the "mint pill" works "the best". I actually bought a bit of stock in the company that makes it today (I probably will lose my money but, hey). I try to give as little as possible to him until I hear more about it. It is made of anatabine which grows on tobacco and tomatoes and other vegetables. The tobacco part sounds fishy that's why I was hoping to hear from any other parents that may be using it.
