Helpful Threads & Links for PANDAS
Chemar replied to Chemar's topic in PANS / PANDAS (Lyme included)
info from Ronnas on strep antibody titers http://www.latitudes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=1053 updated info from Buster on ASO titers http://www.latitudes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=3756 -
we used chlorella supplement as primary chelating agent and then once the tests showed most mopped up we followed with alpha lipoic acid. (ala crosses the blood brain barrier so has to be used only once systemic mercury is mopped up else it will bind and carry it into brain) also increased intake of cilantro. my son had intensive acupuncture, reflexology and resonance biofeedback therapy during this treatment to ensure detox

lol no Guy, not trying to hint at anything. My comment was more so you would understand if there wasnt too much enthusiasm or response here about any meds with potential side effects, as this is primarily an alternative therapy site so most members are here seeking ways other than rx meds to help. Have you ever visited the homepage here?...that will kinda give insight into the ACN/Latitudes mission http://www.latitudes.org

here is a bit more on it from myrose's first thread about the dry blood test http://www.latitudes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=3927 Dr Franz is an Orlando area pediatrician who I mentioned to myrose as my son had been to her when younger and we were very impressed. She is the one who helped me get him started on alternative therapies, and he had his first acupuncture after her recommendations too. She is Integrative pediatrician, fully qualified in conventional medicine but also certified homeopath and naturopathic medicine and so one really gets the best of both there.

The Treatments that have Helped My Son
Chemar replied to Chemar's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
Hello Sharon it would be so much more beneficial to answer your questions here as then that can also maybe help someone else, and also becasue our other parents here may be able to provide you with additional experience and info that could really help you find answers for your son. ( you can also private message me via this forum ) does your son have Tourette syndrome? How long have your been using BonTech for him? any other conditions? testing? the BonTech supplements are excellent, but we have had reports here over the years that some people seem to react to some of the ts-plus ingredients and so see little or no tic improvement. I based my original program for my son on Bonnie's original protocol, before she had BonTech, but made a number of adjustments based on his specific testing and advice from his physicians. Are you using the fish oil? many of us have found intolerance to that and use flaxseed oil for omega 3 instead. also some people dont seem to handle taurine (taurate) well tho they appear in minority I also need to emphasize that we did not see the best results from the supplements UNTIL we cleaned up my son's diet and environment of the things he is reactive to! I hope you will post a bit more of the difficulties you are seeing so that all of us can try to help -
well they may not cause tardive dyskinesia but heart block and heart failure plus the other stuff there dont sound too good to me most folks who come to this particular forum are generally looking for alternative treatments rather than prescription drugs, especially for kids

it wasnt a "short temper" guy...it was psychosis. very alarming. he imagined things that did not exist and became very aggressive. when he tried to explain it to the doctor he said it felt like a "purple ooze kept fuzzing his brain and he could feel anger rise. he would fret over things and build imaginary scenarios into full blown issues and then become furious at the imagined "slights" and then brood over things from his childhood etc till they bubbled over into fury at the present honestly, I cant even begin to describe how scary it was to observe this gentle person become so enraged. the psychotic side effects took a while to manifest, but interestingly the relief was almost instantaneous as soon as he stopped taking the clonidine. I know different people have varied metabolism and so not everyone would have this kind of reaction, and for some this med has been very helpful. but I have heard from other people ( including some here) who were not happy with clonidine side effects.

just adding again what I have mentioned before....clonidine made my husband alarmingly psychotic and it did not help his tics at all

Where is the strep located in the brain?
Chemar replied to _Jennifer_'s topic in PANS / PANDAS (Lyme included)
Sorry, I may have missed it before but have you been to see Dr Murphy EAMom? This is the first I have heard of her having that approach? We did see Dr Murphy in 2000 with my son when we suspected PANDAS, I can sure say she never led us to believe that "many of these kids outgrow" PANDAS or tics and she certainly did tell us of antibiotic protocol for treatment. I have no idea of her current views re IVIG as it is 8 years since we saw her last Dedee (amongst others here) also went to see her fairly recently, and she wrote helpful letters for her to take to her docs in home state plus recommended the antibiotics etc. She was very helpful to Michele as well as far as I remember I think it really is important for anyone coming here to get a balanced perspective from everyone's actual experiences so that they, and their physicians can make informed decisions . -

target sells natural italian sodas that my son likes. he also mixes his own at home by adding pure concord grape or cranberry juice to seltzer. makes a great spritzer when at a restaurant he drinks perrier and ads a squeeze of lime or lemon we never do fast food anymore so no problem deciding there. -

Chemar replied to _Jennifer_'s topic in PANS / PANDAS (Lyme included)
Hi Jennifer and welcome, tho so sorry tohear what brings you here I am not a PANDAS parent(my son has genetic Tourette Syndrome) but I sure have been here long enough to see how many kids sadly suffer with this, and how often they are misdiagnosed with other disorders.(although some do have PANDAS as well as TS, Aspergers, autism) I am so pleased to see that this new doctor you have is clued up enough to at least know about PANDAS and that she ran tests and has given you referrals. Sadly many mainstream doctors dont seem to acknowledge the existance of PANDAS nevermind how to diagnose or treat we have many threads here and also on the TS/tics board where PANDAS parents report success with the azithromycin antibiotic (if you do a search on the TS/tics board you will also find posts from Ronnas, who was the first parent here to report on success with azith and she documented a lot on the progress of her son) In addition to Dr Kovacevic, there are also some other physicians around the country who are recognized as being at the forefront of research and treatment on PANDAS (some parents here have seen Dr Tanya Murphy in Florida, and there is also Dr Swedo in Maryland at NIMH), It certainly sounds like the psychiatrist you are currently seeing for your son is thankfully aware of PANDAS, so hopefully you will be able to get the best treatment possible for your son. all the best to you -

Hi Mary oh my bet dh wont ever cheat on the diet again huh my son now gets very nauseous if he consumes HFCS or any of the additives so this does not surprise me in a little one on empty stomach and system that has been cleansed from all that junk for so long -
I think ibupfophen (in advil) can impact liver and have other side effect after long term, regular use, so do check with your doc on this i believe my MIL was also told it weakened bone? but not sure on that I see on drugs.com they also caution re heart etc http://www.drugs.com/advil.html I use it rarely but do find it relieves arthritis pain better for me than tylenol

my son had all immunizations and yes, I too believe things likely got worse for him with some of them, tho at the time I didnt realize the kind of harm his older brother (born 1986) had some the same, but had all his up to 5yo when we still lived in Cape Town SA He has no health problems, and always been real healthy.....even tho it was he who had pretty nasty strep throat once (youngest had neg culture then) anyway, youngest (born 1989) had up to 2yo in SA then the rest here, including the middle school hep and tetanus booster as well as some when he went on s.american missions trip 2003. He is the one with TS,OCD,ADD.CAPD, Crohns etc Has had health probs since early infancy

tip toe cracking and knuckle cracking against body
Chemar replied to michele's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
Michele, does you psychologist actually know what tics are? or the relationship between tics and OCD in some kids, especially those with TS?? for my son tics and OCD symptoms can often "morph" also he is frequently aware of the tics (many TSers describe a sensation before the tic, like an itch that has to be scratched) other times he is totally unaware of them I cant say for sure whether the cracking your son is doing is tic or ocd related, but I just dont personally agree with the criteria the psych is using to differentiate them, based on my knowledge of my son -
I got my recipe from mrsD It's best when made regularly in these smaller batches rather than big batch stored any cream that wont cause water to "settle out" will do. I get a calendula based one at my health store
-
yup some dopaminergic amino acids (eg tyrosine, phenylalanine) aggravate TS tics while some may help (taurine, carnitine) so it is real important IMO to be careful of treatments for people with TS that incorporate broad spectrum of amino acids rather than just the specific beneficial ones I honestly know nothing on intramax and think only one or 2 members here have tried it?
-
Hi Liane yes the epsom cream (we make our own) and baths do bring a real noticeable calming of tics dont they I know we had a thread running before on how rubbing the cream on or near the area where the tics are occurring seems to also be beneficial
-
for my son with TS, waning only means less frequency and intensity of tics, not tic free. The only time he doesnt tic is when asleep or when playing his musical instruments and other things that have him totally absorbed and focussed re fish oil and flaxseed oil.....the fish one definitely causes my son to tic more whereas flaxseed really helps in many areas for him hope the BonTech supps prove helpful
