junkyardjean reacted to 911RN in Cyanosis now....
Ditto what Hopeny said. Pediatric cardiologist is warranted and ASAP. Cyanosis in a child is not normal, especially transient cyanosis. Things can be wrong that listening to a heart with a stethoscope will not pick up. Listening to heart sounds is the most basic, non invasive modality- tells you only if heart beat is regular/irregular and if heart sounds are normal. If no murmur then one "assumes" valves are OK. THAT's it!! It is not a diagnostic tool to say that heart is fine with no worries.
She needs full scale cardiology work up with EKG, Echo and maybe even stress test?? Keep us posted!

At this stage past the basic boo boo I don't count on the ped for anything. Pretty much i am using specialists. Sorry I can't give you any insight into what it cd be but personally I wd consider starting with a pediatric cardiologist. Good luck

Is this a stool or saliva test?
I believe e.avium is also a typically vancomycin resistant bug.
Did they do a sensitivity on the growth to determine susceptibility to antibiotics?
I do not think this can be ignored AT ALL,.
Was this done by some "hokey" lab? If so, ask him to repeat it, at a lab he is comfortable with. (I am using his term "hokey" not inferring anything about your choice of lab!)
Ask him if he would ignore such a positive finding on the stool culture of his 5 year old!
read about VRE species here: . http://www.nphl.org/VancomycinResistantEnterococcus-Iwen.pdf.pdf
you will see the e.avium is quite rare, really. in humans, anyway. (I bet lots of birds have it )
my child had a VRE (e.faecium) UTI. Treatment with Linezolid was rough. Major dietary and medicine changes for 2 weeks pre med, 2 week post and during administration.

Just found this reference when googling...interesting that they say that enterrococcous avium was previously referred to as Group Q Strep!

junkyardjean got a reaction from EmilyK in Article on IVIG use in Canada
Found this on my internet travels - interesting breakdown on IVIG use in Canada. PANDAS is discussed and is listed as a condition where IVIG would be indicated - not sure why things are still so hard here if this was discussed years ago? Docs listed on expert panel - not sure if anyone has any experience with them???
