A couple of thoughts: 1. Antiobiotics treat more than just strep, so prophylactically will protect from other infections that could be triggers. 2. Those of us who have treated prophylatically, have also found anecdotally that the antibiotics seem to have a secondary effect of reducing inflammation.1 point
