Flu shot link to tics?

patty

Recommended Posts

There is flu vaccine without thimerosol. I just looked at some information on this. I'll see if I can find it to post a link. In the information from our Department of Public Health it also mentioned that pregnant women should get the thimerosol free shot. That being said, I'm not sure how easy it is to find it.

Tessa

OK......here is the document I read: http://www.mass.gov/dph/cdc/epii/flu/flu_c...mmendations.doc

If you look at page 4 it mentions thimerosol. After that (? the next page) there is a chart of the type (brand) of flu shot and the content of theimerosol is listed. You can see those manufactureres that are thimerosol free. The flumist is also thimerosol free, however, I believe there is live virus in the flumist.

Hope this helps!

Hello all...

Every year we get the same questions...about flu vaccines.

While I am not a big proponent of them, I do not get them myself, it really is a personal choice, after all.

(risk vs benefit).

Each person should decide for themselves. What I don't like about the yearly flu vaccine is that the strains chosen

are decided LONG BEFORE the season even starts. Many years those strains never materialize, or

old strains are used that are long gone. And I have seen many people come down with OTHER viruses right after getting a flu shot..this is actually quite common. It is like the immune system is "busy" with the vaccine so other bugs just step in an take hold more easily.

Another issue is autoimmune... people with autoimmune disorders, prone to them, tend to react to

foreign injected substances. While the data is not supportive of this, there have been charges that the HepB vaccine contributes to MS. This is still controversial.

The use of intranasal live flu vaccine...has serious drawbacks:

http://www.medicineonline.com/news/10/2556...u-Vaccines.html

Viruses tend to follow nerves and when inhaled in a vaccine form, are implicated in causing Bell's Palsy.

I think the "industry" is promoted by the government, to keep the vaccine industry fluid incase of emergency.

Therefore, real studies on efficacy may not be accurate.

Sorry to be a doomsday poster. :)

You have a ways to go to beat me as the doomsdayer where vaccines are concerned.

Since many of us have kids who are at an age where the meningitis vaccine is going to be recommended,

I thought I would post this info. here too.

There is new talk about increased risk of GBS with this vax.

Well, Kim, we went thru that meningitis thing. When my son entered college they pushed for

new students to get the vaccine. I told him no. So he didn't and he didn't get the dreaded meningitis either.

A friend of ours has a daughter who had VIRAL menigitis..she is 21. I think viral is more common.

http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000680.htm

Also when the hepB came out, he was in middle school. And I picked up the papers at the pediatrician's

and put them in my purse. When I happened to be seeing MY doctor, I found them there,

and asked her opinion. She has 4 kids. This was way before they started giving it to babies.

And she said NO NO NO... she did not trust it either. My son had horrible reactions to DPT, this was before the Pertussis was removed. He used to scream all night long, the day of the booster. When he was five,

entering school, they gave the booster in the thigh. He couldn't walk for 3 days! So that was the end

of vaccines for him. I guess we were very borderline with the Autism risk, after reading how some children reacted to those boosters like my son did. When I think back on those days,

I shudder a huge shudder. All he ended up with is ADHD. ;)

It is so controversial today. This topic never fails to illicit huge responses. And when I think back, I share

those cringe cringe thoughts, how parents "accept" things at the doctor's offices without a blink. When I was

at the health department getting a TB test (for work), I saw the new charts for babies. When listed that way

it is pretty dunning! Alot has happened in this industry in 25 years. And one wonders at all the neurological

illness in kids these days...the rages, etc. My son struggled alot in school, and was infinitely better on

supplements...that is why I have specialized in this area. Beefing up our own bodies, to prevent illness is the way to go I think. EFAs strengthen the blood brain barrier, zinc improves immunity, etc etc. A diet high in transfats (fast food) is just horrible for health! And that is only one example!

Doomsayer, signing off :)

Agree...Agree...Agree.

This is an article about a situation in Norway & New Zealand. They have a vax for

Neisseria meningitidis B. This is a strain that is not currently included in our meningitis vax, but does account for a % of cases. Again, look at the language about a "cover up."

http://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/GE0610/S00065.htm

Our current vaccine, Menactra covers A, C, Y, and W-135.

If you look at this statement;

Death or serious illness from bacterial meningitas occurs at an annual rate of about 1.2 cases per 100,000 youths ages 11 to 19, said Davis, director of the CDC's immunization safety office.

That means the risk of an unvaccinated youth getting seriously ill from bacterial meningitis is about 10 times greater than the risk of a vaccinated youth developing GBS, according to the study. [/i]

They don't mention how many cases are caused by Neisseria meningitidis B. Then consider the under reporting of GBS, how true does this 10x's number hold? Once the huge population of kids with existing neuro problems start recieving this vax, what might the numbers do?

If I were to have had my boys vaxed, and heard that there was an outbreak of meningitas, I would not have restricted their exposure assuming the vax. would protect them. I would not have known about the B strain, or even to ask about the fact that the infected person might have had viral meningitis. The longevity of protection from this vaccine is unknown also. They are HOPING that it's longer than the last one, which if I remember correctly was about 3 years.

Something else I read early on was about tetanus.

Package insert from TD vax. states

http://www.vaccineshoppe.com/US_PDF/271-83_4152_4153.pdf

560 cases reported in 1947

CDC says

http://www.cdc.gov/nip/publications/fs/gen/WhatIfStop.htm

Tetanus is a severe, often fatal disease. The bacteria that cause tetanus are widely distributed in soil and street dust, are found in the waste of many animals, and are very resistant to heat and germ-killing cleaners. From 1922-1926, there were an estimated 1,314 cases of tetanus per year in the U.S. In the late 1940's, the tetanus vaccine was introduced, and tetanus became a disease that was officially counted and tracked by public health officials. In 2000, only 41 cases of tetanus were reported in the U.S.

So the incidence had fallen by more than 1/2 prior to the use of the vaccince? Maybe due to better wound care? That fact, seems to be overlooked in the CDC statement. Their #'s seem to leave out some important facts quite often.

Reading the link you posted about viral meningitas, made me think of the HIB vaccine for infants. This was an article that really made me think about the gaps created by vaccination.

This article was written by someone who posts on the mothingdotcommune vaccine forum.

http://www.whale.to/m/butler7.html

As you pointed out, everyone must decide on an individual basis, but I sure hope parents will start holding thier Dr.s accountable for sound information, so they start holding the CDC accountable. I can tell you first hand after visiting 3 Pediatrician offices with my neice and her baby (now 6 mos. old, and currently unvaxed) The lack of knowledge of these issues was PROFOUND.

much needed continuous discussion Kim and MrsD! so please dont think you are being doomsayers....quite the opposite, you are being TRUTH sayers!

I often wonder if the HepB vaccine mandated for Florida middle schools could in some way have contributed to my son's Chrohn's Disease as it was just after he had that final shot that his digestive woes began :)

and

although we have a clear genetic history for the TS on my husband's side, yet I will always be left to wonder just what the childhood vaccines may have contributed to the manifestation in my son :):(

My oldest is in his jnr year at college and we declined the meningitis vaccine, and, knowing what we now do about the risk factors, would be opposed to any vaccinations, period.

hindsight is sometimes oh so painful, but at least by speaking out, we can hopefully spare even one child from the fallout of this flawed system that needs to be seriously revised.

Chemar,

If you have your sons vax record handy, I'd be happy to see if his HEP B was thimerosal free, if you can tell me the manufacturer. It's said that they started phasing it out in 1999 however, there was never a recall, and the expiration on some vaccines wasn't until 2002 or 2003.

If your son developed Crohn's after the series, you can file it with VAERS. https://secure.vaers.org/VaersDataEntryintro.htm

This is something parents need to know about, and USE it. It seems like many of us are never offered this report. How in the world does this system show ANY trends? You don't need a Dr. to file this.

I'm wondering if you know right off hand if your son had his 1 and 2nd MMR at ages 1 and 5?

It looks like some of the Dr.s didn't go with the recommendation to do the second dose at 5 and some kids got their 2nd dose at 10 or 12, I can't remember which right off hand.

MS is the adverse event talked about most frequently in relation to HEP B, but measles seems to be the "gut buster." If the flora is upset or an antibiotic has been taken during the month this vaccine is given, it appears there is a greater risk. The vax. strain of measles has been found in the intestines of autistic children.

This is a good site to read about the gut connection and MMR.

Hi Kim (or anyone else that has paid attention to vaccines.)

My son had his biannual check up today. The GP wanted to give him a tetanus/percussis booster and a meningitis vaccine (both of which he said no longer had thimerisol in them).

Have you read anything about these vaccines? I know if I did them, I would space them, but it makes me very nervous.

It has been 8 years since his last tetanus booster, and technically they are due every 10 years, but he says they are pushing for greater frequency at this age due to commonly getting injured. My son is active and is always getting scraped up in a big way.

We have apparently also had some sporadic meningitis outbreaks. This meningitis vaccine is a newer version that he said he only been around for 4 years, but the older one (which is similar) has been around longer.

Claire

Claire and All,

DO NOT DEPEND ON THE COMPLETENESS OR ACCURACY OF THIS INFO

My humble opinions are included here. :)

I don't believe that it has anything to do with more frequent injuries at this age. I think it has to do with more profits.

3 of my family members were given a TdaP booster this past summer and a friends husband who went in for an insurance physical. Two family members had bee strings, and one had a sinus infection. I knew something was up. My sister was given some horrendous and TOTALLY ficticious numbers regarding tetanus(read 2 posts above about the prevalence of it). Then I read where there is a Big Push on, in the Dr.s offices for this vax. I had already seen it personally, so had no trouble believing it.

Two Tdap vaccines have been recently licensed. GlaxoSmith-Kline’s Boostrix is licensed for persons 10–18 years of age, and sanofi pasteur’s Adacel is indicated for persons 11–64 years of age.

http://www.drugs.com/NDA/adacel_040811.html

Virtually all of the cases of tetanus disease occurring in the U.S. are in adults not up-to-date with booster vaccinations.

If the above statement is true, where are all of these adults with Tetanus? You can say that they don't get injured as much, but check out the knuckles of anyone who works construction, or in factories, women who garden etc. Think about all of the adults/young adults with injuries, that they wrap with something less than sterile and carry on!

Pertussis is most dangerous to infants under 6 mos. old. This is why they are starting to vax all of us adults with it. They are giving it to our kids 6 times btwn the age of 2 mos. and 11 or 12 years old, but apparently it's not working very well(like the flu shot in the older folks, so now they're recommending it for kids) so they figure, by giving it to adults, that might work...so we stop spreading it to kids :)

They are hoping to give Adacel or Boostrix to the rest of us, every 5 years, instead of 10, like the current Tetanus booster(TD vaccine stilll contains thimerosal). One of the wonders of this is that it can be given more frequently in the event of a Pertussis outbreak in your viewing area.

Adacel pkg insert....first paragraph "other ingredients"......errrrrrrr

http://66.102.7.104/search?q=cache:MeZHHE-...k&cd=5&ie=UTF-8

http://www.drugs.com/adacel.html

What should I discuss with my healthcare provider before receiving Adacel?

• Do not receive this vaccine if you have:

· a disorder or disease affecting your brain;

· uncontrolled epilepsy or other seizure disorder;

· a neurologic disorder;

· human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection; or

· a weak immune system caused by disease or by taking certain medicines or receiving cancer treatments.

I'm not up on Diptheria at all.

As far as meningitas and Menactra, in addition to the information above in 3rd post from top, look at this chart...see the B strain?

http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/mm5540md.htm

I think we also have to consider the new stains that emerge, as old ones lessen due to vaccination.

This thread is talking about HIB. but this concept applies to the men. vax. too.

http://www.mothering.com/discussions/showthread.php?t=544266

I really don't think that theres any way for parents to make informed decisions about vaccines, unless they understand something about the diseases themselves.

There are SO many things to consider besides thimerosal.

I don't believe we can vax. away illness. I also worry about the state of funds for health care in the future.

What happens when there are so many of these things that noone has NATURAL immunity to, and we have to start paying out of pocket for these vaccines. Might we have a whole bunch of adults with Chicken Pox and worse?

Kim and others

according to this link.

http://www.cdc.gov/nip/recs/child-schedule-color-print.pdf

Menningitis is the last vaccination for my child whose age is 7 years old.

By the time the child is 18 months old, most kids would have gotten most of the vaccinations.

Some poster here says u can get the Menningitis shot before college or during college,

does this means elementary/middle/high school do not requires that shot???

I am trying to figure out if he can get away from anymore vaccination.

You truth-sayers have really woke me up on this matter.

Thanks

Daniel,

In our state, I have to provide the school with proof of 6th dose of Tetanus, Diptheria, and acellular Pertussas, when my now 10 yr. old, enters middle school next year. I will file a religious exemption.

The Dr.s are recommending one of the meningitas vaccines, but it's not required YET that I know of. That could change any day. There are many vaccines that are in development, and current ones that are being considered for "required" vaccines. As far as I know, the 2nd dose of chicken pox, is not required yet, but do to the miserable failure rate of one, I'm sure it's coming.

This is a really great forum for getting educated on vaccines.

http://www.mothering.com/discussions/forumdisplay.php?f=47

There are tons of links to information and studies. Some people there that have so much knowledge about vaccines and the diseases, it's incredible.

If anyone reads, please post information that you think is important on one of these threads!

Nine of the study's 19 co-authors reported financial ties to vaccine manufacturers, but the industry had no direct role in the study.

Kim,

Thank you thank you.

I know you have commented that it is more than the thimerisol...that is why I asked...

Anyway, I won't go near the shots now. It was the Adacel by the way.

I am so pleased that this time around I knew to not just blindly do something. The odds of some reaction to the booster are far greater than his odds of getting tetanus or meningitis!!

This is from J.A.M.A

http://jama.ama-assn.org/cgi/content/abstr...&view=short

Do you have any idea how to interpret the info under RESULTS?

Then, the first paragraph states that they started recommending it in 2004, without adequate safety testing in large #'s. Wonder if any of the Peds disclosed that?

I know you have commented that it is more than the thimerisol...that is why I asked...

I think I drink too much black tea, and am getting to much flouride uptake from it :)

I tend to repeat, especially since this is a subject that I have become quite passionate about.

This whole topic started to really bother me, the first time I was posting on it, because I was afraid someone would pop up and say that their child got this or that, because they decided not to vax. Also, it's really easy to post something inaccurate, since it's a complicated subject. The more I read, the more it bothered me NOT to say anything though.

Going to repeat myself again. Every parent needs to make they're own choice.

Glad others are joining in with opinions.

BTW, Your Welcome!
