Hi Patty

yes, we have had a number of discussions here in the past re this matter because of the preservative, thimerisol, that is a mercury based chemical used in many flu vaccines

as far as i know only california has taken steps to use vaccines that do not contain thimerisol?

if you do a search here for the term, you will find all the past discussions

Yes, I believe there is. Not only do some vaccines still have thimerisol, they also have other toxins & preservatives. I think there are a couple other states other than California that have banned thimerisol from vaccines, but I can't recall where I've seen that before at this time.

Here's vaccine guidelines put out by Defeat Autism Now: http://www.generationrescue.org/pdf/vaccine_guidelines.pdf

hi Evie

it is your decision but I personally would not have the flu vaccination done if it has thimerisol or any heavy metal based preservative or other potentially problematic chemical

better to boost the immune system naturally with antioxidants and herbal preparations like Uno de Gato

Thx everyone for your input on flu shot. Due to my son's asthma, it was recommended by our ped. to give him a flu shot annually. We have done so the last couple of times.

If my son's tic is induced by the mercury and other perservatives from the flu shot, is there anything the doctor can do, other than chelation?

I agree with Chemar. I personally would never have the flu vaccine, but that's just me, and I don't have asthma either. When making your decision about whether to get any vaccines make sure you research to come up with your decision. Here are some sites you may want to check out for more info:

chlorella is a supplement that helps to absorb mercury from the body

It is a "green food" and is advised to start with a very low dose and then work up as some people can feel nauseous when first using it

You need to do what you and your doctor feel is best, but if there is any way you can either avoid the vaccine (and do natural immune boosting instead) or ask if a thimerisol free vaccine is available, I would highly recommend that. Especially for a susceptible child with tics, mercury is just a big no no!

As a point of interest, a friend of mine has recently completed the 40 day plan in The Maker's Diet by Jordan Rubin, and is asthma free and inhaler free for the first time in his 30 something year old life

We follow the principles in The Maker's Diet as a family too, and especially for my son's Crohn's

Patty,

This post does not really pertain to flu mist, sorry, I have not read the insert on that particular vaccine, but I can help you find it, if you have trouble. These are just some of my thoughts on this issue. Here goes... :)

If your questioning vaccines, please start reading here. It's a wonderful place to get educated.

Momtezuma Tuatara aka MT is an awesome resource. Look for her posts in particular.

She wrote a book called "Just a Little Prick." She lives in New Zealand.

The vaccine issue has been the single most disturbing thing for me to come to terms with.

I can't believe that my trust was so complete, and I was so reckless with my babies. The handwriting was on the wall, and I was so cavalier in my faith in the medical establishment, that common sense went right out the window.

I would NEVER walk into a Dr.s office and let them give me 7 vaccines in one day, but many/most parents barely question it, for infants as young 2 months.

I will never again be told that there is an outbreak of meningitis, and not ask if it's viral or bacterial. I will know enough to ask if it's a serotype that is even included in the vaccine. I will know that, just because my child had a vax. that they are not necessarily protected.

I will know the vax ingredients, and what adjuvants are in the vaccine. An adjuvant is something that provokes an immune response, and I guess we're just supposed to hope that the response is to the intended antigen, such a pertussis, and not something like casein or strep. I will know the prevalence of the illness in question, how it can be treated in the event my child contracts it. I will not subject my boys to their SIXTH variation of the DTP/DTaP/TDaP, whatever the latest profit propaganda is perpetuating. Wonder if I could say that 3 times fast???? :D

As you can probably tell, I have some serious reservations about the whole vaccine issue. I also feel that there is a blatant disregard for the adverse health effects that they could be, and possibly have been, setting up in our children. This is in ADDITION to the thimerosal debacle, with no end in sight, as more and more vaccines are in the works to be added to the present schedule.

Here is an example of one of MT's posts on aluminum (adjuvant). I think you'll have to scroll down a bit into the thread. The poster who started this thread has info. here that is useful reading, regarding the immune system too.

I have many links and studies on file.

I had done quite a bit of research before I found the Mothering Vax forum, so it was easier to understand the posts there, but it sure would have saved TIME had I found it first!

This is an area, where every parent has to do their own reseach and make their own decision regarding what they feel is best for their particular child. I just want to encourage you to make an INFORMED choice.

Well the irony is that the mercury in the vaccines can depress the immune system and make the allergies/asthma worse. Tough balancing act for a parent.

Yes the thing to do is to find out for sure if the flu mist has it or not.

We have one of those foam antibacterial lotions in the glove compartment, and whenever he gets in the car he 'washes' his hands. It made a huge difference in what he caught.

I'm 99.9% sure that you are going to find that flu mist is thimerosal free. It was used as a sanitizing agent in mostly multidose vials. I believe the TD booster and the flu shots, both pediatric and adult doses, are largely where it's still found. Probably a few others, but not routinley used (rabies???)

There have been reports, although not sure of the reliability of sources, where vaccines that are said to have trace amounts, were tested and had "more than trace."

You should be able to find the package insert in the links that Carolyn posted.

There is a thread on the sign in page of the Vaccine forum at Mothering.com right now, regarding the efficacy of the flu vaccines. Well worth reading!

A few articles someone may find interesting. If you read just the last line of the first one, looks to me to back up what Claire just posted.

Thank you Chemar, Claire, Kim and Carolyn for your insight and info on flu shot.

I have a suspicious that the flu shots, albuterol, singulair, flonase and flovent have indirectly contributed to my son's tics.

I am not giving the flu shot to my son this year. Since we have been seeing a Chinese doctor for the last year, there isn't a need for it this year. I have also been following the eastern medicine to boost his immune system. It is slow and a lot of work but it is worth it.

As far as I can see the Flu Mist is the only one that hopefully doesn't have mercury (always demand to see the labels) and that still doesn't mean that there's not any other harmful toxins in the FluMist.

However on the following link below, it says those with asthma shouldn't receive the FluMist. By the way it also says allergy to eggs, immune system problems, along with several other things.

Patty,

Some how we got off on flu mist here, sorry, the flu shot information can be found under the package insert link.

I found what Carolyn already posted. Some other interesting things about the vax. shedding, who shouldn't get it, etc. This is a LONG pdf. regarding flu mist.
